2013 DAKAR RALLY

The 2013 Dakar Rally (formally known as the Paris-Dakar Rally) started on the 5th of January and runs through to the 20th. This is the fifth rally based in South American after it was moved from Europe and North Africa, following security threats and related safety concerns in 2008. With various vehicle classes covering cars, trucks, quads and motorcycles, the Rally is run over a series of short day long stages, typically under 1000km in length. The route for 2013 crosses three countries (Peru, Argentina and Chile), starting at Lima heading south down the coast, with a series of inland legs before finishing in Santiago. The race attracts competitors, mostly amateurs, from 50 countries and is the most famous annual off-road endurance race. Follow the Dakar Rally via their official website.
