ZEN MOTORCYCLE INSPIRATION

Written in 1974, Robert Pirsig’s novel is based around a 17 day motorcycle journey with his son Chris and two friends. Enriched with in-depth philosophical discussions, Pirsig draws on different aspects of adventure bike touring, with an emphasis on motorcycle maintenance and the role of technology in society, to flesh-out his philosophical ideas. For the rider interested in philosophy, Pirsig’s novel is a must read. Notwithstanding the merit of his arguments and his development of a Metaphysics of Quality, the book is a classic and most motorcyclists will relate to many of the areas Pirsig covers. Pick up the audio book version for those long rides.
