The new Guardian Purifier from MSR is a good option for adventure overland travellers, or people travelling in developing nations and backcountry wilderness areas. MSR state the Purifier “meets NSF protocol P248, testing standard used by U.S. military, for removal of viruses, bacteria, protozoa, and sediment from “worst-case” water conditions.” The unit’s pump has a self-cleaning mechanism that works on each stroke, producing a constant flow rate of 2.5 litres per minute with its fiber filter cartridge capable of treating up to 10,000 plus litres of water. The unit weighs 490g (1 lbs 1.3 oz).
